Córdoba, Argentina is a great place to study Spanish.
The city is home to 7 undergrad universities so in many ways studying is what this city is all about.
When you decide to study Spanish you could opt to go to one of the Spanish schools here in Córdoba. Here is information on three 3 popular schools.

Those schools are all good however here’s a method that I used I did to get a Spanish tutor for very cheap.
I posted an ad in the local online classified ads looking to hire a Spanish teacher. Cordoba’s main newspaper – La Voz – has online classified ads that serve as their Craigslist. The job section of La Voz is here – http://empleos.clasificadoslavoz.com.ar/
In the ad I said I was looking to hire an experienced private tutor to teach Spanish to foreigners and listed a few requirements. Here’s the exact Spanish I used if you want to replicate –
_____
____
With the high unemployment in Argentina I probably had around 40 people email their CV to express interest. The private tutors I found all had varying degrees of experience but most where actually students from the Facultad de Lenguas who where looking to make some money on the side.
After screening several tutors I agreed with one tutor who was excellent for $60 pesos per hour which – for private 1×1 lessons – is a much, much better price than any of the above schools can offer.
Couple of caveats with this approach
In theory each of the schools has already vetted their teachers meaning when you sign up for a class you’re getting a teacher who knows his or her proverbial stuff. This is definitely not the case when trying to hire a private tutor off of La Voz. You’ll have to review CV’s and interview the teachers to ensure that they are competent tutors. I was also very honest with the tutors about what this was during the initial phone screen and some dropped out as they were searching for more of full time/contract gig. I also wanted to ensure that I had buena onda (good vibe) between me and the tutor so that lessons would be better.
While the tutors will be knowledgable in teaching the Spanish language the majority of the private tutors will not have any materials. So as opposed to the schools that provide you the content with this private tutor approach you’ll need to provide your own materials and subjects that you want to study. Or you could always get lucky and find a tutor who already has materials.
Anyways thanks to these lessons my Spanish is certainly getting better.
Saludos!

Hi there Damon, I’ve just arrived in Córdoba and really like the idea of this approach to take my Spanish to the next level! I was just wondering if you were able to pass on the details of your tutor – it seems a lot easier than wading through the clasificados and I’m guessing they’d be happy to be recommended…
Thanks so much for making this blog – I just renewed my visa justo on my 90th day after a paro in the bank and the long weekend – a perfect storm for waiting in queues – would have been a whole lot more stressful without your tips!
Cheers!
Hi Charly – Welcome! The guy I was using actually moved to Canada so you’ll have to find another. Hope you enjoy Cordoba! Damon
Great information! I am learning Spanish
